September, 2024, the Bluffton community came together to celebrate two significant milestones in the expansion of our local infrastructure with the dedication of two new bike and pedestrian pathways. These events, held on September 3 and September 17, 2024, underscore the collaborative spirit and commitment to enhancing the quality of life in our vibrant community.

County Line Pathway Dedication
On September 3, 2024, the community gathered for the dedication of the Lions Way County Line Path. This ceremony marked the completion of a new bike and pedestrian pathway that connects key areas of Bluffton, providing a safe and accessible route for both residents and visitors. The event, which took place in front of the Bluffton Child Development Center, was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Bluffton Lions and the Village of Bluffton.

State Route 103 (Lions Way) Pathway Dedication
Just a couple of weeks later, on September 17, 2024, another significant dedication ceremony was held for the addition of a bike and pedestrian pathway along Jefferson St./State Route 103. This new segment stretches from County Line Road to I-75, enhancing access to numerous businesses, housing, a hotel, restaurants, gas stations, and shops along this bustling stretch of road. The SR 103 Lions Way segment is particularly noteworthy for its visibility and practical utility. As Jackie Bourassa, President of the Bluffton Lions Foundation, highlighted, this pathway serves not only as a recreational route but also as a vital artery connecting various businesses and amenities. The ceremony was attended by about 35 individuals, including local residents, Pathway board members, and stakeholders from the Ohio Department of Transportation, Hancock County Parks/Engineer, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and the Lima Allen County Regional Planning Commission.

Community Collaboration and Support
Both dedication ceremonies were characterized by a strong sense of community and collaboration. The SR 103 pathway project, for instance, was made possible through the contributions of 27 major donors, whose support was commemorated on a recognition sign unveiled during the ceremony. Key project leaders and participants, including the Bluffton Pathway Board and Village liaisons, were also recognized for their efforts. The events featured a range of activities, including a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce director Jim Enneking, an invocation by Reverend Jeremy Mann, and a performance by an ensemble of Bluffton High School singers. Village Administrator Jesse Blackburn provided a detailed project overview, highlighting the significant funding of over $1 million that made these pathways possible.

A Bright Future for Bluffton
These new bike and pedestrian pathways are more than just infrastructure projects; they represent a commitment to the well-being and connectivity of our community. They enhance safety, promote physical activity, and foster a sense of community pride. As we look to the future, these dedications serve as a reminder of what can be achieved through collective effort and vision. The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to support initiatives that make our community a better place to live, work, and visit. We extend our gratitude to all the individuals, organizations, and stakeholders who contributed to these projects. Your hard work and dedication have created pathways that will benefit our community for years to come.
